Xbox: Phil Spencer is the New Head of Xbox
In a press release from Xbox Wire, Phil Spencer has been announced as the new Head of Xbox.
The news comes after the recent departure of Chief Product Officer, Marc Whitten. Whitten helped launch all three Microsoft consoles and played a crucial role in the expansion and growth of Xbox Live. Microsoft will be looking at Spencer to fill the void Whitten has left behind.
To go with his new job title, Spencer will be leading all Xbox divisions including Xbox Live, Xbox Music, Xbox Video, and Microsoft Studios. It’s a vast amount of responsibility, but Spencer believes it will be beneficial to the Xbox brand:
Combining these teams will strengthen the connection between some of the world’s most innovative creators and those building the Xbox itself.
From a gamers perspective, this revolving door of corporate chairs will not make a noticeable difference. More information regarding the future of Xbox is expected to be revealed at E3, but until then Spencer wants to assure consumers he is right for the job.
Our mission is to build a world-class team, work hard to meet the high expectations of a passionate fan base, create the best games and entertainment and drive technical innovation. As we continue forward, this renewed focus and mission will be a foundational part of how I lead the Xbox program.
Only time will tell if Spencer is the right man to lead Xbox to glory.
