Xbox One Games With Gold Is Now Available

Earlier today, Microsoft announced the beginning of their “Games With Gold” promotion on the Xbox One. This month, Xbox One owners and Gold subscribers can enjoy two of the console’s games free with their subscription: Max: The Curse of Brotherhood and Halo: Spartan Assault.

The promotion on the software company’s new console works differently than the Xbox 360 counterpart. In order to maintain the access to the games, you must maintain your Gold subscription. Contrast this with the Xbox 360 where you only need a sub to initiate the download. Once the game is “purchased” with Games With Gold it is yours to keep, regardless of your sub status.

This was also a point that was used to differentiate the promotion from Sony’s PS Plus offerings each month. Sony has countered back by offering two games per hardware: PS4, Ps3 and Playstation Vita.

Xbox 360 owners can also take advantage of a third game this month to celebrate one year of Games With Gold. In addition to Dark Souls and Charlie Murder, Gold subscribers can also download Capcom’s fighting game Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.
