Thief Runs At 1080p On PS4, 900p On Xbox One
In an interview with Eurogamer, Square Enix confirmed Thief’s resolution on both new consoles from Sony and Microsoft. Thief will run at 1080p on the PS4 and at 900p on the Xbox One. Both version will run at 30 frames per second (fps).
This is yet another cross platform title that has been confirmed to run at a lower resolution on the Xbox One than on the PS4. Games like Assassin’s Creed 4, Battlefield 4, and the recently confirmed Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes all run at a lower resolution on Microsoft’s machine. This is in addition to first party titles like Dead Rising 3 and particularly Ryse: Son of Rome, the latter of which shares the 900p resolution with Thief.
Speaking with Eurogamer, game director Nicolas Cantin said, “You really need good eyes to see the difference,” continuing that the Xbox One version “is as good as the PS4 version”. Perhaps Cantin meant that the gameplay on the Xbox One version is “as good as the PS4 version,” because visually, there most definitely is a difference.
Cantin went on to state that the real differences are between the last gen versions (360/PS3) and the current gen (Xbox One/PS4), stating “The immersion is more [on next-gen]…We put more detail in, more special effects. But at the same time, we kept the same gameplay experience with the current-gen and the next-gen versions.”
Thief is due out on February 25th, and this author can’t wait to sneak his way through it…on PC.
