Rift Reforged: Episode 15: Planes, Trains and Hoverbikes!

November 30th, 2014 Posted by Podcasts, Rift Reforged - A Rift Podcast No Comment yet

American Thanksgiving is this week, and it’s a case of “first the show, then head madly off in all directions” for Reforged. We’re talking week-in-game, some hotfixes, and there are some data-mined teasers to throw in, too. Kendo has the minion up-date that we promised last week, TG is talking Ranger, and Enikki helps us get to know the back-story of Kira Thanos and Uriel Chuluun.
Just one more week until Captain Cursor!

RIFT: Custom PvP Dimensions

March 27th, 2014 Posted by News Archive, Rift News Archive No Comment yet

rift-storm-legionRift once again ventured into a cool idea that had only been on the wall of crazy for most other MMO games. Today they made a post on their blog that they’ve officially added the ability for players to decorate and coordinate new PvP Dimensions. The idea is basically that players will take a variety of decorations to make an area look themed to a PvP setting, then players will be able to duke it out for glory. According to the post, these new Dimensions will come in both 2 and 3 team varieties.

Additionally, select items are being added to a “complete bundle” that will allow players great tools for setting up their Dimensions. The list included:

  • Faction Banners and Start Points: Banners in PvP Dimensions allow players to ally themselves with a specific faction (Nightfall, Oathsworn, or Dominion), and Start Points give Dimension designers the ability to set unique spawn points for each.
  • Damage and Kill Zones: What’s the fun of an arena without dastardly traps and dangerous obstacles? Place a variety of objects that bring pain – or death! – to areas of your choosing.
  • Scoreboards: Of course you’ll need a way to track winners and losers: scoreboards are here to help.
  • Invisible Tiles and Spheres: With Invisible Tiles and Spheres you can herd combatants to certain areas or require they make leaps of faith into thin air. The uses for these are absolutely endless!

It’s going to be very interesting to see what players come up with. Be sure to check out the Public Dimensions listings over the coming weeks to see the evil designs of your peers first hand.

RIFT Developer Reveals Plans for PvP Dimensions

January 3rd, 2014 Posted by News Archive No Comment yet

In a post on the official RIFT forums, Pithos (a developer for the game) gave a little insight about what may be coming down the pipe for PvP dimensions. While he couldn’t pinpoint a release date, he said that work IS being done in this area, and he hopes it is what fans are hoping for.

I’m the one that has been working on PvP Dimensions when time allows (which has been rare!)… There’s still no official release date set – it largely depends on how many features we want to launch with, and how often other tasks take priority. I’ve got a very basic version fully functional now. Current working example: Click a banner to join a team, get teleported to your team’s start point, fight, get a point (or points) each time you kill someone on a different team, when you die and hit respawn, get teleported to your team’s graveyard and resurrect, and then at the end, declare victory for the winning team (or a tie!)… All of this within a dimension of your own creation, of course. I’ll be talking with Daglar some time soon regarding when & how we want to release this.

While it doesn’t sound like these features will be coming anytime soon, fans can rest assured this appears to be a priority for Trion. You can check out the RIFT forums for the full thread, and be sure to leave your thoughts on what should be included in PvP dimensions in the comments below.
